The creator of ADAPTIVEBIKE first noticed pain in his hands over fifteen years ago. The hand pain inhibited both work and play. After trying many therapies and treatments for Osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease with no cure, he retired early from the contruction industry. His active life style and bike riding activities were also affected. Osteoarthritis made bike riding a painful and dangerous experience. The hand positions and motions necessary for bike riding became extremely difficult, and a new adaptive brake and shifting mechanism was called for. He went to work on a solution that would enable him to to stay in good health through his passion for bicycle riding. Early efforts were very crude, even laughable, and he found he could not do much of the actual work due to his condition. He was fortunate enough to find a wide variety of very talented, insightful, and innovative people, and continued to improve the prototypes until achieving the results before you. |
